Geraldine Black

I first picked up a paintbrush in Melbourne and studied under the renowned artist John Lawrey. This was as if a brand new world had opened up before me, the possibilities of one day becoming an acceptable artist was something I aspired to and so the journey began.

After I moved to Noosa some 8 years ago, I continued to explore different genres and mediums especially after I began to paint with a local group called "The Brushes of 8". It was then that my real interest and style began to take shape, with more time available to devote to the art of painting.

When I approach the canvas I often have no idea what I will paint. The paint and the mood I am in seeming to take over the subject, guiding me along until I am often surprised at what I end up with. Painting completely absorbs, it is definitely the happiest and the most frustrating creative pursuit I have ever undertaken. I find that painting itself has it's own life and that I am just the vehicle from which the paintbrush flows.
